Bobby McFerrin demonstrates neural programming using music
Posted on 12. Jan, 2010 by Jake.
Bobby McFerrin, the brilliant musician (perhaps unfortunately best known for the song ‘Don’t Worry Be Happy’) uses the pentatonic scale to amazing effect here, demonstrating how certain scales of music (and perhaps a whole lot of other forms of information too) are intuitively understood by the human brain. Nice one, Bobby.

Is smartkid82504, who created this stop frame version of Mario Brothers 3, a genius or just a loser with too much time on his hands? Either way, this clip is pretty impressive…

Esquire’s moving magazine cover ushers in the present
Posted on 11. Jan, 2010 by Jake.
Proving themselves to be ahead of the curve when it comes to combining the old-school world of print media, or dead tree media as I prefer to call it, with the latest technology, Esquire celebrate their 75th anniversary with a magazine cover that moves.
‘The 21st Century Begins Now!’ proclaims the text on the cover proudly, just in case you were under the delusion that it started ten years ago.
The cover is the result of new technology called ‘E Ink’. Esquire are the first magazine to use such technology, and the cover is also the first example of a disposable E Ink display (the idea being that you can throw the mag away if you want to which, let’s face it, you probably don’t since it will probably become a collector’s item).
The technology adds only $2 (or R14) to the price of the mag, which has battery power that will last 90 days. 100 000 copies of the e-cover will be printed.
But enough chit chat. Seeing is believing. Check it out…

The 24,000 LED “Galaxy” dress
Posted on 19. Nov, 2009 by Jake.
Wearable tech is not a new concept but it can be safely said that 24,000 LEDs on a dress is pretty much cutting-edge, especially on the fashion front.
The combined energy consumption of the LEDs is apparently the same as what is needed to power 2 light bulbs. One wonders why LED technology isn’t used a lot more…
Anyway, the dress is set to be displayed in The Fast Forward Gallery at the Museum of Science and Technology in Chicago. Ladies, do you see yourself in one of these?
The music in the attached demo video is kinda creepy yet strangely pleasing… Enjoy!

NASA “blows up” the Moon
Posted on 14. Oct, 2009 by Jake.
Impossible to ignore last week’s big space happening: NASA “blowing up the moon”. Erm, ja. These two vids might clear it up for you a bit. It’s been a controversial topic. Should the States have consulted international Space Agencies? Should the UN have discussed it? Was it the right thing? Am curious to hear what y’all think. Leave me a comment, let’s chit chat.
